Andrea Moro(Pavia, 1962) Professore Ordinario di Linguistica Generale presso la Scuola Superiore Universitaria ad Ordinamento Speciale IUSS di Pavia è responsabile della classe di scienze umane, direttore del centro di ricerca in Neurolinguistica e Sintassi teorica (NeTS), Presidente del programma congiunto di dottorato in neuroscienze cognitive con l'Uni­versità Vita-Salute San Raffaele (UniSR) e copre la carica di Prorettore Vicario dello IUSS. Già ordinario di Linguistica Generale presso UniSR ed associato presso l'Università di Bologna, è stato varie volte visiting scientist presso l'MIT e la Harvard University. Laureato a Pavia in lettere classiche, studente Fulbright, ha conseguito il dottorato di ricerca in Linguistica presso il consorzio di Padova e il "Diplôme d'études supérieures en théorie de la syntaxe et syntaxe comparative" presso l'Université de Genève.

È stato tra i fondatori del Dipartimento di Scienze Cognitive della Fondazione "San Raffaele" di Milano nel 1993 e membro del comitato ordinatore della facoltà di psicologia e di filosofia presso il nascente ateneo che ha contribuito a fondare nel 1996; qui ha inaugurato e ricoperto per due mandati la presidenza del corso di laurea interfacoltà in Neuroscienze Cognitive. Ha tenuto corsi e seminari in varie università in Italia e all'e­stero, tra le quali la Scuola Normale di Pisa, la Harvard University, MIT, NYU, il Collège de France, la University of Cambridge, l'École Normale Supérieure a Parigi ed il Max Planck Institute a Lipsia.

Ha studiato prevalentemente sintassi teorica (teoria unificata delle frasi copulari, espletivi, inaccusatività,wh-in-situ, località e movimento sintattico proponendo la teoria dell'antisimmetria dinamica come rottura di sim­metria), la relazione tra semantica e sintassi (predicazione, frasi esistenziali, effetto di definitezza, frasi quasi-copulari) e la neurolinguistica (con parti­colare interesse per la relazione tra sintassi e cervello).  Ha pubblicato numerosi articoli in riviste internazionali tra le qualiNature Neuroscience,The Proceedings of the National Academy of Science(PNAS),Trends in Cognitive ScienceeLinguistic Inquiry. Andrea Carlo Moro (1962) is full professor of General linguistics at the Institute for Advanced Study IUSS in Pavia, Italy, director of the Research Center for Neurolinguistics and Theoretical Syntax (NeTS), Head of the Humanities, Director of the Ph.D. joint program in Cognitive Neuroscience with UniSR and Vice - Rector of the Institute. In 1993 he was among the founders of the Department of Cognitive Sciences at the Istituto Scientifico H San Raffaele in Milan where he became head of the interfaculty program in cognitive neurosciences after the establishment of the University in 1996 which he contributed to found.

 He graduated in Pavia, Italy, in classical literature, obtained a Ph.D. in Linguistics at the University of Padua and a "Diplôme d'études supérieures (DES) en théorie de la syntaxe et syntaxe comparative" at the Université de Genève in 1993; he started visiting MIT as a Fulbright student in 1988 and has since then been appointed "visiting scientist" at the Dept. of Linguistics and Philosophy for several years. He was also appointed "visting scholar" at Harvard University at the Dept. of Linguistics in 2006 and 2007. He lectured in many universities, including the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, the Collège de France, the University of Cambridge, NYU, the École Normale Supérieure in Paris and the Max Planck Institute in Leipzig.

His main fields of research are the theory of syntax and the relation between syntax and the brain (neurolinguistics). He has published many papers in international Journals such asNature Neuroscience,The Proceedings of the National Academy of Science(PNAS),Trends in Cognitive ScienceandLinguistic Inquiry.
